Tutu's and the beach
April 27, 2011
People tend to think that Abigail will be a bit of a wild card when it comes to her turn to be on stage in ballet. She begins her first official class this summer and has a lot of practice, already, under her tutu.
Another one of our weekday buddies. She couldn't walk at this stage in the game and was a little bit mad at me for dragging her out in the chilly morning. Here we get a little bit of a smirk from her.

She's actually growling like a lion in this one.
I think she looks good in purple.

...and she thinks we're just fishin'
April 25, 2011
The story behind this selection of pictures is that the digital card FAILED when I plugged it in to download. Everything was lost. I went to a store and the man behind the counter actually had the nerve to ask me, "Well, how important are the pictures?" With a tone sort of like - they're just pictures...I just looked at him and said, "She kissed a fish." And walked out.

Just Fishin'
I'm lost in her there holdin' that pink rod and reel.
I'm lost in her there holdin' that pink rod and reel.
She's doing almost everything but sittin' still.
Talkin' bout her ballet shoes and trainin' wheels,
and her kittens. And she thinks we're just fishin'.
I say Daddy loves you baby one more time,
she say's I know, I think I got a bite.
An all this laughin', cryin', smilin', dyin' here inside
is what I call livin'
(Chours)
An she thinks we're just fishin' on the river side,
throwin' back what we could fry,
drownin' worms an killin' time,
nothin' to ambitious
she ain't even thinkin' bout what's really goin' on right now
but I guarantee this memories a big'in
and she thinks we're just fishin'
She's already pretty, like her momma is
Gonna drive the boy's all crazy
giver her daddy fits
and I better do this every chance I get
'cause time is tickin'
(Chours)

Yeah, aww she thinks we're just fishin'
We ain't only fishin'
This ain't about Fishin'

Dogwood beauty
April 20, 2011
I have claimed my neighbors dogwood tree as my own ever since we moved in. It welcomely hangs over our fence JUST ENOUGH to enjoy all its glory. You couldn't possibly count the buds on this tree and then ever so slowly, they begin to open, creating this beautiful masterpiece to enjoy.

I might have known this folk-myth before but I thought it was sweet Easter symbolism when I came across a poem about the legend of the dogwood tree.
"When Christ was on earth,
the dogwood grew
To a towering size
with a lovely hue.
Its branches were strong
and interwoven,
And for Christ's cross
its timbers were chosen.
"Being distressed
at the use of the wood,
Christ made a promise
which still holds good:
'Never again shall the dogwood grow
To be large enough for a tree, and so,
Slender and twisted it shall always be,
With cross-shaped blossoms for all to see.
"The petals shall have bloodstains
marked brown,
And in the blossom's center a thorny crown.
All who see it will think of me,
Nailed to a cross from a dogwood tree.
Protected and cherished this tree shall be,
A reflection to all of my agony.'"
- The pink dogwood is rumored to be the blushing of the shame for shedding innocent blood.
- The weeping dogwood is rumored to be the heartfelt cry for this tree being used to crucify Christ.
- The holes at the petals' edges represent the nail prints in Christ's hands.
...and dogwoods don't grow in Israel but I seem to have a very Holy backyard.

Bleeding Hearts
April 19, 2011
These have got to be the ultimate favorite flower of mine. We planted some ten years ago when we moved into this house and this year, there are so many blooms! It proudly blooms once a Spring and comes back every year. It has also been known as the Heart of Jesus and the Heart of Mary...appropriate for Mother's Day if the blooms hang around that long.
We will have to experiment on the broken branch. It is said that there is a story in each of the blooms. Divide it into six pieces; two pink rabbits, a pair of earrings, a pair of Oriental slippers, and a dagger. The story is that an obsessed young man gave the gifts to a cold-hearted princess and when she did not return his love, he stabbed himself with the dagger!
So, I couldn't help but post the results:

Fortunately, I was able to capture the picture before one of the kids got a hold of the plant. Part of motherhood. You learn not to leave your Waterford out. A lot of people seem to be doing this 365 days of pictures, where they post at least one picture everyday of something spectacular, interesting or just plain pretty. I'm a bit late in the game - but I thought I would jump in, too, because I've enjoyed so much following all my friends and their friends and their friends friends...I'm new to this blogging and still perfecting my photography, but I love to talk AND to take pictures, so what a better match? I hope to keep you entertained...
Snow in April? Day 108/257 days left
No blog site would be complete without my most popular subjects - this photography business probably wouldn't have been a possibility without them (and my husband, but we'll talk more about him later):
