These have got to be the ultimate favorite flower of mine. We planted some ten years ago when we moved into this house and this year, there are so many blooms! It proudly blooms once a Spring and comes back every year. It has also been known as the Heart of Jesus and the Heart of Mary...appropriate for Mother's Day if the blooms hang around that long.
We will have to experiment on the broken branch. It is said that there is a story in each of the blooms. Divide it into six pieces; two pink rabbits, a pair of earrings, a pair of Oriental slippers, and a dagger. The story is that an obsessed young man gave the gifts to a cold-hearted princess and when she did not return his love, he stabbed himself with the dagger!

Fortunately, I was able to capture the picture before one of the kids got a hold of the plant. Part of motherhood. You learn not to leave your Waterford out.
